New Beginnings

It's been quite some time since my last post and as much as I'd liked to blame it on anything else, it was mostly laziness from my part. However, there have been a few changes recently, which has taken some of my time and so I've somewhat neglected this blog. But I'm determined not to put my pen down any time soon.

So, new beginnings... After 18 months of tortured unemployment and being in a state of limbo it seemed, I've found my calling. And because I'm weird like that, I'm not unequivocally keen on disclosing precisely what it is (I assure you it's nothing shady). But that feeling of finally being able to have some purpose to your days knowing that you're headed somewhere, a place where you've wanted to travel along but weren't quite courageous enough to step up to even try, it's truly refreshing.

While the sound of 'new beginnings' sounds brilliant, it can also be rather terrifying, because with new stuff comes change. Change is certainly challenging, but I started this hurdle and I want to meet it head on. I'm not sure whether I'll be successful in the route that I'm taking but I will give a damn good shot of it.

So, when you start at a new place, whether that's work, school, uni or whatever else it could be, you spend the first week scouting, well at least I do. Scouting for that group who you're going to have lunch with, or those who you could have a cheeky gossip or laugh with in the office, you get my drift. By day three, you've eliminated quite a few and by day five, you've somewhat managed to settle with your lot, hoping they don't turn out to be weirdos and secretly praying you find at least one, please just one sane person you could speak to.

This time round it wasn't any different, only that I was slightly older than quite a few of them. And though, I don't exactly act my age, (nor look it apparently, thank goodness), it was rather hard to see past the immaturity of a lot of them. Thus, I was in a predicament, do I pal up with the ones much older than me, who spend their time talking about school runs and childcare (*snore*) or do I shake hands with the younger crowd and be the 'mummy' of the group. NO! For the love of God!

Six months in so far and it's not been so bad, I've accepted my weird position in this place and it seems it works quite well, I manage to speak to both the younger and the older. And whilst I prefer the younger (note: I didn't disclose my age to them) because they make laugh and keep me feeling like I'm 17, the older certainly keep me focused on my goals. We make a fantastic bunch together and to my utter excitement, Harry Potter fans can be found even in the oddest of places.

My new beginning, though it's stupendously demanding, leaving me little time to write and even less for the gym (yup, going fat again), I'm relishing it, but I'm starting to feel the waves picking up and it's time for me to wax that board and get my surf on.

Bring it on!

P.S. I'll aim to make it a shorter gap between this post and the next, unlike the last.
